When you think of an Orlando holiday you automatically think Walt Disney World. But there is so much more to Orlando. You are free to do as much or as little as you like. You will soon discover why people keep going back time and time again. We will briefly look at what is on offer in Orlando, which time of year would be best for your travel group and where you can stay. This is the perfect holiday destination for families with young children, teenagers, couples or group holidays. There really is something for everyone.
January and February are generally a quiet time to travel. There are some dance and cheer competitions hosted at Disney during these times so check before you book. The weather is coolest in these months with an average of 20 degrees. You'll need to pack some jumpers for the chilly morning and evenings and some summer clothes for the warmer days.
March and April the weather is improving to very pleasant levels, although the crowds are very high with spring break taken at different times across these months and Easter.
May and June averaging high 20's and the crowds are moderate. Plan midday breaks from the sun and storms will also likely play a part in your trip.
July is a heavy crowd month and a hot month, it is also hurricane season.
August and September are some of the lightest crowds, as schools in America start to return in August. It is still hurricane season and temperatures are soaring at their highest. You will need to factor in storms and breaks from the heat. September sees the start of Halloween theming.
October, November and December are moderate to high crowds. November sees the beginning of the Christmas decorations, with Thanksgiving being a very busy time of year. The levels of rain fall drops in these months, with October average temperatures still high but cooling off more in December with averages in the low 20's again.
This is probably the place that comes to mind when you think of Orlando. With 4 huge theme parks, 2 water parks a shopping district and multiple resorts, Disney alone is enough to keep you busy for a 2 week holiday. There is no age that is unsuitable - even newborn babies can experience over 120 attractions! Additionally children under 3 years don't require park tickets.
Calling all Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, Minion and film fans! Ride enthusiasts will love Universal Studios 2 parks and water park. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is truly spectacular featuring a ginormous Hogwarts castle, life-size Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade villages. Universal have also recently announced a new park due to open 2025 'Epic Universe'
Thrill seekers should consider a visit to SeaWorld and their white knuckle rides. Been there done that? Take a short journey over to Busch Gardens for an adrenaline-junkies perfect day out! You definitely wont be short on thrills at these parks. SeaWorld also has a water park and Discovery Cove which boasts an all inclusive package of food and drinks, snorkeling gear and optional dolphin swim.
Also known as I-Drive, this 11 mile long entertainment district includes countless restaurants, shops, hotels and entertainment venues. Featuring the worlds biggest McDonalds, you can find indoor skydiving, museums, the ICON park, escape rooms, mini golf, helicopter rides and so much more.
If all we have mentioned so far isn't enough for you within a short distance of Orlando, Florida also offers unforgettable experiences at Daytona International Speedway, the Kennedy Space Center, Legoland, kayaking through natural springs, golf courses, airboat tours of the everglades and multiple gorgeous beaches. Staying onsite at Walt Disney World or Universal Studios comes with many perks. These include free, regular transportation to the parks and extra hours of park admission before or after general entry. At Walt Disney World the hotels have entertainment in the evenings such as watching Disney movies under the stars and camp fires for making smores. Some Universal Hotel's include queue passes with your stay! Staying on resort is a great option if you have a young family as you can easily come back to your room for a rest or mid day break. It is also perfect for saving time travelling and parking costs.
A more budget friendly option would be to stay in a non resort hotel. There are numerous options close by, International Drive is a great option to have plenty to do on your door step. Some hotel's include complimentary shuttles to theme parks throughout the day. These hotels are a great base if you are exploring multiple areas of Orlando. If you are travelling with a group or family, a villa may be a great option for you. With your own private pool and many complex's having community facilities for you to use also. The option of a villa will quite often work out a great budget option for larger parties. Orlando can be an action packed and busy holiday. Having your own home away from home can make all the difference when you need a rest or a wind down after a busy day.
